This generation Sierra is particularly suitable for an upgrade, as the headlights have excellent optics, and are betrayed by their very dim halogen bulbs. The one caveat is that these headlights are projector lenses, and therefore should not be used with LEDs. Since this model Sierra headlights use projector lenses, we recommend an HID kit. Projectors require omnidirectional light sources in order to get a perfect beam pattern, retain horizontal cutoff, and work plug and play with the automatic headlight system. The headlights on this model have a very clever shutter system that changes the beam pattern from low to high using a single bulb, meaning a single kit upgrades both the lows and highs, plug and play.
The foglights on this generation sierra are non-projector. LED kits work well in the foglights and deliver excellent value and performance HID kits will also work in the fogs, but only the 35w kit is recommended, as the foglight housings are too small to dissipate heat from a 55w kit. The halogen headlight bulbs are already 55w, so the 55w headlight upgrade is usually the best place to start.
