Ford HID Headlight Bulb Replacement Guide — Factory HID Models in Canada

Ford HID Bulb Replacement Guide — Factory HID Models in Canada

This guide is for factory-equipped HID Ford vehicles only. Many Ford models were sold with halogen or LED trims in the same years, and those versions do not use D-series HID bulbs. If your vehicle came with halogen headlights and was later converted by a previous owner, it would not use OEM D-series bulbs and this guide would not apply.

Most Ford factory HID headlamps in Canada from the mid-2000s through the early 2010s use D3S bulbs in the projector, corresponding to common Ford/Motorcraft references such as Motorcraft HID trade number HB-137 and Ford/Lincoln service part 7L7Z-13N021-A and its superseding equivalents. Earlier exceptions include the Ford GT, which uses D1S, and the Focus SVT, which uses D2S. If you are unsure, remove one bulb and confirm the laser-etched bulb code before ordering.

Explorer Notes

The 2011–2015 Explorer Limited is the main confirmed factory HID Explorer application and uses D3S. Later Explorer trims in Canada often moved to LED lighting, so replacement HID bulb listings should always be confirmed at the vehicle before purchase.

Focus Notes

The Focus has two separate factory HID applications in older Ford data: 2015–2018 Focus models using D3S, and 2002–2004 Focus SVT using D2S. These should not be treated as interchangeable because D2S and D3S are different bulb families with different system requirements.

Ford HID FAQs

My 2011–2014 F-150 has factory HID. What bulb do I need?
Factory HID trucks use Pair D3S HID Bulbs — OEM Replacement. Remove one bulb and confirm it is stamped D3S before ordering. The most popular model of this generation with factory HID was the F-150 FX4.

Are 2008 Mustang GT HID bulbs the same as 2017?
Yes. Factory HID 2008–2017 Mustangs use Pair D3S HID Bulbs — OEM Replacement.

Can I swap D1S into a Ford that came with D3S?
No. D1S and D3S use different electrical designs and are not interchangeable without changing the matching ballast and wiring.

My car was converted to HID by the previous owner. Does this guide apply?
No. Aftermarket HID conversions on originally halogen vehicles use kit-specific bulbs and ballasts, not factory OEM D-series fitments.

I’ve been told my 2015+ F-150 uses D5S. Is that correct?
Some catalog entries show D5S on certain 2015–2018 F-150 headlamp packages, but these should be checked manually at the bulb before ordering. We've never seen a F-150 with D5S. Call 647-547-1962 for fitment help.
