Lincoln HID Bulb Guide — D1S, D3S Replacement for MKZ, Navigator, MKX, Continental, MKS, MKT
Lincoln HID Bulb Replacement Guide
Lincoln factory HID headlamps follow Ford's D1S-to-D3S transition — earlier models (pre-2010) use D1S (Osram 66144, Philips 85410), while 2010 and later HID-equipped models use D3S (Osram 66340, Philips 42302). HID was available on the MKZ, Navigator, MKX, Continental, MKS, and MKT; many Lincoln trims in the same years used halogen or full LED headlamps. This guide covers factory HID-equipped models only. Always confirm the D-code stamped on your existing capsule before ordering.
Factory HID Models (Lincoln)
MKZ
First generation (2007–2009 with factory HID) — D1S projector HID low-beam; not all 2007–2009 MKZ trims included factory HID — confirm by checking for a ballast module behind the headlamp housing.
Second generation and facelift (2010–2019 with factory HID) — D3S projector HID low-beam; lower trims in the same years used halogen.
Navigator
Third generation (2003–2006 with factory HID) — D1S projector HID low-beam.
Fourth and fifth generation (2007–2017 with factory HID) — D3S projector HID low-beam. The 2018+ Navigator Reserve and Black Label moved to full LED headlamps and does not use a D-series bulb.
MKX
Second generation (2011–2018 with factory HID) — D3S projector HID low-beam. Note: the 2007–2010 MKX used halogen (H11) low-beam headlamps — no factory HID was offered on that generation.
Nautilus
First generation (2019+) — full LED headlamps standard; no factory HID and no D-series bulb.
Continental
Tenth generation (2017–2020 with factory HID) — D3S projector HID low-beam on HID-equipped trims; upper trims in later years moved to adaptive LED — confirm by checking for a ballast module.
MKS
First generation (2009–2016 with factory HID) — D3S projector HID low-beam on HID-equipped trims.
MKT
First generation (2010–2019) — D3S projector HID low-beam standard on HID-equipped trims.

Lincoln HID Headlight FAQs
My MKZ has HID headlights — how do I know if it is D1S or D3S?
The 2007–2009 MKZ with factory HID uses D1S. The 2010–2019 MKZ with factory HID uses D3S. D1S and D3S are not interchangeable — they fit different ballast systems. If you are unsure, read the code stamped on the base of your existing capsule.
Does the 2007–2010 MKX have factory HID?
No — the 2007–2010 MKX used halogen H11 low-beam headlamps. Factory HID on the MKX began with the 2011 model year using D3S.
My 2019+ Nautilus headlight is out — what bulb does it use?
The Nautilus uses full LED headlamp assemblies and does not use a replaceable D-series HID bulb. If your LED headlight has failed, the assembly itself typically requires replacement. Call us at 647‑547‑1962 and we can point you in the right direction.
What is the difference between D1S and D3S?
D1S has an integrated igniter built into the bulb base and runs at higher voltage. D3S also has an integrated igniter but is mercury-free. They are not interchangeable — always match the bulb type to what was originally fitted.
Not sure which bulb your Lincoln needs?
The bulb code is stamped on the base of the capsule. If you cannot access it easily, send us your VIN or call 647‑547‑1962 and we will confirm the correct type before you order.
