Kia HID Bulb Guide — D1S, D3S Replacement for Cadenza, K900, Optima, Sorento, Sportage
Kia HID Bulb Replacement Guide
Kia's factory HID headlamps track Hyundai's bulb transitions closely — pre-2016 HID models use D1S (Kia/Hyundai OE 18647-35006; Osram 66144, Philips 85410), while 2016+ HID models moved to D3S (Kia/Hyundai OE 18647-35007; Osram 66340, Philips 42302). HID was concentrated on the K900, Cadenza, top-trim Optima, Sorento, and Sportage. Many Kia models in the same years were sold with halogen headlamps; this guide covers factory HID-equipped trims only. Always confirm the D-code stamped on your existing capsule before ordering.

Kia HID Headlight FAQs
My 2014–2016 Cadenza has HID headlights — D1S or D3S?
The VG Cadenza (2014–2016) uses D1S. The YG (2017–2020) moved to D3S on HID-equipped trims. If you have a 2017–2020 Cadenza, confirm the code stamped on your existing capsule before ordering.
Does my Optima TF or JF use the same bulb?
No — the TF (2011–2015 SX / SX-L) uses D1S and the JF (2016–2020 SX / SXL) uses D3S. D1S and D3S are not interchangeable — they fit different ballast systems.
How do I know if my Kia has factory HID or halogen?
Look behind the headlamp housing for a ballast module — a small black rectangular box. If it is present, and it has a Kia part number on it, you have factory HID. If it is an afrtermarket peice, you have an original halogen car that was upgraded previously. If there is no ballast, your Kia has halogen and does not use an HID bulb. Many Kia models offered HID only on the top SX, SXL, or Limited trim in any given year.
Not sure which bulb your Kia needs?
The bulb code is stamped on the base of the capsule. If you cannot access it easily, send us your VIN or call 647‑547‑1962 and we will confirm the correct type before you order.
