Jeep HID Headlight Bulb Guide — D1S, D3S Replacement for Grand Cherokee & Cherokee
Jeep factory HID headlamps are concentrated on the Grand Cherokee and the Cherokee KL. Two D-series capsules are used: D1S (Mopar 68019657AA; Osram 66144, Philips 85410) on the Grand Cherokee WK (2008–2010) and WK2 first generation (2011–2013); and D3S (Mopar 68110018AA; Osram 66340, Philips 42302) on the Grand Cherokee WK2 refresh (2014–2021) and Cherokee KL (2014–2019 Limited / Trailhawk projector trims). Other Jeep nameplates — Wrangler, Compass, Patriot, Renegade, and Gladiator — never shipped with factory D-series HID in Canada. This guide covers factory HID-equipped trims only. Always confirm the D-code stamped on your existing capsule before ordering.
Factory HID Models (Jeep)
Grand Cherokee
WK (2008–2010 Overland with factory HID) — D1S projector HID low-beam. Lower trims used halogen in the same years.
WK2 first generation (2011–2013 Overland / SRT8 with factory HID) — D1S projector HID low-beam. Lower trims used halogen in the same years.
WK2 refresh (2014–2021 Overland / Summit / SRT / Trackhawk with factory HID) — D3S projector HID low-beam. The 2014 refresh moved from D1S to D3S and held D3S through the end of WK2 production in 2021. Lower trims used halogen in the same years.
Cherokee
KL (2014–2019 Limited / Trailhawk with factory projector HID) — D3S projector HID low-beam on HID-equipped trims. Many KL trims in the same years used halogen headlamps — confirm by checking for a ballast module behind the headlamp housing. Note: from 2019 onward, most Cherokee trims transitioned to LED headlamps; late-build KL units with the projector HID package continued to use D3S. If you have a 2019–2023 Cherokee with HID, confirm the bulb code on your existing capsule before ordering.
Grand Cherokee L / Grand Cherokee WL
WL (2021+) — full LED headlamps standard; no factory HID and no D-series bulb.

Jeep HID Headlight FAQs
My 2014 Grand Cherokee is an Overland — D1S or D3S?
D3S. The 2014 model year is the first year of the WK2 refresh and moved to D3S. If you have a 2011–2013 Grand Cherokee with factory HID, the correct bulb is D1S. D1S and D3S are not interchangeable — confirm by reading the code on your existing capsule.
Do the Trackhawk and SRT use the same HID bulb?
Yes — both the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and SRT use D3S in the projector low-beam, the same as all other HID-equipped WK2 refresh trims from 2014 onward.
Did the Wrangler ever come with factory HID?
No — the JK and JL Wrangler use 9003 halogen reflector headlamps as standard, with factory LED available on select Rubicon packages. No Wrangler generation shipped with factory D-series HID in Canada.
My 2018 Cherokee — HID or LED?
It depends on the trim and package. Limited and Trailhawk models with the projector headlamp package use D3S factory HID. Overland and Trailhawk Elite trims in later production years came with LED headlamps. Confirm by checking for a ballast module behind the headlamp housing — if a ballast is present, you have factory HID.
Not sure which bulb your Jeep needs?
The bulb code is stamped on the base of the capsule. If you cannot access it easily, send us your VIN or call 647‑547‑1962 and we will confirm the correct type before you order.
